How YouTube can generate Brand Awareness for your Business

Engaging storytelling mixed with highly engaging and interactive visuals is a great way to generate brand awareness for your company. Storytelling is the oldest form of communication humans have within us, it's embedded in our genes. We relate to real people in real life situations, we enjoy the idea of escapism of fantasy and our daily life as well. By doing an entire reversal on your campaign of blasting out your message to the masses and hoping it will stick if you cram your logo everywhere in the video. Case in point, the highly interactive online video team at Revision3 has their logo before every video. A majority of the people I've spoken to, had no idea what Revision3 was! However I mentioned a certain web-series they produce online and their eyes light up saying "OH! Ya, I know them!" Very interesting with the viral campaign for Old-Spice. Old-Spice created a new brand identity using Online Video with Normally Serious characters types and putting them in really absurd situations. For example like the video above. By far my favourite Online Video Campaign is BMW. By hooking up with Guy Richie they completely re-invented a new style of commercialism using short-film as a vehicle to tell their story. The viewer is lost in a character driven commercial. For 6 & half Minutes you're taken on a wild ride with Clive Owen and Modona. So now you're asking yourself, 'thats great and all but I don't have that kind of money on production values like BMW being a small business' Thats the beauty part of storytelling, granted you might not want uncle Frank with his old BETA making a stylized film for you but certainly now with commercial grade products and off the shelf editing software like IMovie, anyone can become a filmmaker. The importance is not in the tools you use but how you use them. And always remember as a small business your greatest strength is in your costumers. Sharing their stories of why, out of all the small businesses, in what ever you might be, should they come to you. It is important with a campaign of this nature to always begin with the 'WHY' of your company. Simon Sinek said it best with this TED Talk, How great leaders inspire action. Definitely an important video to watch before starting anything after going further from this blog.
